Business Intelligence Manager

Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Informatics, the Business Intelligence Manager will lead the BI Reporting team to fulfill the BI reporting needs of the business. Leading the team in an agile scrum environment, the BI manager clears roadblocks for team members and makes determinations regarding swarming and shifting priorities. The BI manager is expected to engage professionally with users, stakeholders, and management to elicit requirements to manage reporting endpoints.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

KPA 1 – BI Reporting

  • Ability to perform SQL queries using existing or newly created master data to build oncology cohorts to assist in research use cases and perform quality assurance steps on completed cohort analyses.
  • Firm understanding of SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS.
  • Engages with stakeholders, developers, data architects, and other team members to identify reporting issues and ‘solutionize’ outcomes.
  • Thorough knowledge of disparate health care data sources for ingestion, metadata, mappings, ontology management, data catalog management, reference data, rules/hierarchies, and normalization.
  • Subject matter expert in stored procedures, BI Gateway, and data-set configuration.
  • Manages and prioritizes the BI reporting ticket queue

KPA 2 – Data Governance

  • Firm understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, business intelligence, ELT development, and ability to read, write, maintain, and tune complex SQL queries.
  • Governance first mindset with the ability to lead subject domain areas interviews in observance of people and processes over tools.
  • Participates in data governance meetings and provides input with data stewards.

KPA 3 – DevOps

  • Serves as BI Product Owner to help set team priorities in collaboration with project teams to drive project plan, metrics, specifications, design, development, integration, verification, validation, and launch of solutions consistent with organizational development processes.
  • Collaboration with BI Developers and Data Architects to complete planning, development, testing, and implementation of new reporting products.
  • Endorse database change automation in CI/CD pipeline to enable reliable, rapid, and effortless releases into production to provide agile analytics.
  • Strong quantitative/qualitative business case analysis skills with the ability to manage multiple competing initiatives in a cross-functional environment.

KPA 4 – Evangelization & Mentorship

  • Governance first mindset with a valuation of people and processes over tools.
  • Provide oversight, training, assistance, and support for the Informatics team.
  • Consult the business regarding educational opportunities, process improvement, and business requirements to drive tool selection and consolidation activities.
  • Communicate project progress consistently with managers and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently while multi-tasked to meet critical deadlines in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong evangelization, mentor-ship, interpersonal, and diplomatic communication skills.

KPA 5 – Team Development

  • Directly manages BI Analyst and Developer daily activities.
  • Coordinates and conducts PowerBI user group training sessions.
  • Participates in objective key results (OKR) setting and career path planning with individual team members.
  • Makes recommendations for team staffing decisions.
  • Conducts annual performance reviews for each BI team member.
  • Recruits, on boards, and ensures team members have adequate training to perform the role and increases professional development towards additional career opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in business analytics, computer science, engineering, accounting, finance, management information systems, or another related field. In lieu of a degree, 10+ years of experience is required or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • At least one Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred

Previous Experience

  • Professional healthcare data experience within clinical oncology is preferred.
  • 10+ years in an active healthcare big-data integration experience with multiple heterogeneous data sources with data cleansing and reference/master data management on an enterprise data warehouse to create a centralized ‘trusted data’ set for data analysis.
  • Four (4) years of SQL report writing with BI or statistical analysis.
  • Advanced relational database architecture understanding with practical reporting and analytics tool experience including SQL Visual studio, Reporting Services, and Integration Services.

Core Capabilities:

  • Understanding of clinical data and data quality needs in an ambulatory oncology setting.
  • Work closely with developers, clinical data architects, and data integration analysts, and business stakeholders to build products that improves confidence in BI reporting capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and manage priorities to ensure report creation and timelines are met.
  • Must be able to work with multiple teams and business units simultaneously with an eagerness to learn and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook required.
  • Profound competency in SSMS, SSRS, Power BI, and SQL required.
  • Data governance knowledge of industry best practices and leading software providers to assist in data steward implementation, maintenance, and support.

NOTES:

Standard Core Workdays/Hours (specify weekends and call requirements): Monday to Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
