- Practice and Prepare

An easy way to prepare for an interview is to research some of the typical job interview questions employers ask and practice your answers. Your answers should be concise and specific, drawing on concrete examples that highlight your skills and back up your resume.

Emphasize the skills that are most important to the employer and relevant to the position. Be sure to review the job description, make a list of the responsibilities, and match them to your experience.

- Research the Company

Knowing the company you are interviewing for is imperative to having a great interview. This allows you to ask insightful and curated questions specific to their organization and shows the interviewer that you are really invested in this opportunity.

- Be on Time

We like to say, “on time is 5 to 10 minutes early.” This allows you to relax and be ready to rock the interview. Time is valuable, so don’t waist anyone’s time by showing up late. It’s very unprofessional and can lose the job for you before you even interview.

- Actively Listen

Listening is an incredibly important skill to use for interviewing. Many candidates go into an interview with a “script” prepared on exactly what they are going to say. This can be ineffective because you may miss important points being made during the conversation. By listening to what the interviewer is saying and asking, you’ll be better prepared to answer their questions.

- Be Mindful of Your Body Language

Body language can play a huge part in how the hiring manager views you. Go in with confidence, head raised, back straight and smile! Show interest and pay attention.

- Ask Questions

Most interviewers will end the interview asking if you have any questions – be prepared, have questions ready! These are easy to come up with while researching the company or position but may come to you during the interview. Having insightful questions shows the interviewer your genuine interest in the opportunity.

- Relax
It’s important to relax during an interview. Easier said than done but breathe deeply and have confidence. An interviewer can see the confidence you bring, and this will help you show them that you are right for the job while also leading to a great conversation.
- Follow Up/ Thank You Note

After the interview, be sure to follow up with a quick thank you note. By doing this, you are showing them your interest as well as thanking them for their time. You can also use this as an opportunity to send a little summary of why you are qualified and anything you may have missed during the interview.
